How To Finish An Assignment In One Day
The second time in my life I had to cram two weeks of work into 8 hours.
(This was for my Diploma of Project Management)
Picture this:
- Window curtains down
- Door shut
- Aircon on
- Headphones on
- No music
(I eventually put on Japanese piano songs)
Violent unrelenting effort to get it done.
I believe during the halfway point of my eight hour sprint, when I was only a quarter way through the work, did I feel dread that I was not going to get my assignment submitted on time.
Looking at the assignment guide document, it made me even more overwhelmed knowing there was 10 more pages of prompts.
And the reason why I'm telling you this story is the feeling of overwhelm happens when we look at the mountain of work, rather than looking at the first step.
It's having the trust and faith that one foot after the other that we will eventually reach the top.
Also, it's a lesson in prioritisation.
What snowball chance in hell do you have to complete an important assignment if you're constantly:
- Checking social media?
- Drifting off in thought?
- Pulling yourself away from the work that needs doing?
The only thing that will get those words written was by my own fingers.
Time spent NOT typing was time wasted, with the marching of the midnight deadline approaching.
So the next time you get that feeling of anxiety with your work:
Keep going.
And perhaps it's a muscle?
Something we must exercise to be capable of tackling such work.
