Collection Of Phenomenons & Paradoxes of Adolescence
There will be no congruency between the sections of this article. I won't even make a video about it because I do not believe most people want to hear about the weird intricacy of life.
Nonetheless, here's a collection.
Asian Age Paradox
This really depends on the Asian, whether or not they have a baby face.
But, how I'd describe the phenomenon is the 18 year old Asian will look 22, but the 25 year old Asian will look 20.
I can only attribute this to the fact that with that younger complexion, even when as an adult, it then becomes conflicted with objective age.
You In High School Gets Older And Everyone Else Gets Younger
When you begin Grade 7, the Grade 12vers look like fully fledged adults.
However, when you make it to Grade 12, the Grade 7s look so much younger to the previous generation that are now in Grade 8.
With every year, the Grade 12s become younger and younger, then reaching your cohort, to then be perceived younger and younger again.
The Grade 12s you see now are not the adults you saw when you were in Grade 7. This could be a perception of time, or an anchoring effect from being a young prepubescent child.
Although objectively, the Grade 12s between the different years are the same age, they look younger. Is this only because you perceive them as your underclassmen?
Having seen them in your lower cohorts, you have a mental model that categorises them as 'young' and thus not 'older'.
You can only say the grades above are older, thus looking like they are older.
Even though everyone is aging up, your anchored perception of being 'younger' drastically effects how you perceive their subjective age.
Someone may look a certain age, but be another.
Again, it's the expectations we create about how a certain age group or grade are meant to look like. And, if those expectations do not look the same, thus, it creates a disparity and clash of reality.
Waves Of Talent
This could be another contributing factor to the perception of lower grades being younger.
We particularly saw this in the sports and creative arts, the grades became less and less. In numbers, and perhaps talent.
I don't try to cold-heartedly focus on talent, but you can objectively see the amount of students in each specialisation decrease.
The teachers would note this, saying the talent pool was cyclical.
The sportsman and musicians in grades above me felt numerous and talented. Only until reaching my cohort, that I felt that we saw the decrease of it.
There could be other factors to it.
An army musician band were discussing how the youth do not want to learn their instruments badly enough.
Could this be due to the shortening of attention spans from short-form media?
Dating
"I'd Date A Comedian"
I think if they like the guy they will find him funny anyways.
"Do You Know When A Girl Is Flirting?"
If a girl is friendly, the more attractive they are, the more we think they're into us.
The idea of someone who we don't find attractive flirting with us doesn't sit right.
I conflate flirting with being friendly. It's how you interpret or take it which way. Only sure way is by making it obvious.
In saying that, not everyone that is kind and friendly is flirting with you.
Intelligence Breeds Judgement
When you give yourself the label of smart, you think girls are less likely going to feel attractive because they feel like they will be judged due to your increased intellect.
